Q) What inspired you to write this story?
I have to thank my readers for inspiring me to write the Dark Vengeance books. Brandon Noble and Lina Jones, the vampire hero and the human woman he loves, were the central characters in Dark Thirst, the first book in the Brethren Series. Readers really connected with them, and even though they’ve appeared in almost every other book in the series in secondary roles, I received a lot of requests to give them another story in which they played starring roles. Dark Vengeance Parts 1 and 2 are the result.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
I’m embarrassed to admit that more than two years passed between the publishing of Dark Vengeance Part 1 and Dark Vengeance Part 2. Originally, this was supposed to be a single volume of work, and the original ending I had in mind was a far cry from how Dark Vengeance Part 2 actually concludes. But at the time I started working on the project, I was also enrolled in nursing school. I’d finished a practical nursing diploma program, and had just started my Associate’s degree program, working toward my RN. That wound up taking up a lot more of my free time than I’d anticipated, and was my priority for awhile. It wasn’t until I’d finished school and passed my boards, officially becoming a Registered Nurse, that I felt like I could catch my breath and dive back into writing again. Fortunately, I returned to Dark Vengeance with renewed enthusiasm both for the characters and the story, and was able to take it in what I feel were exciting new directions!

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Definitely getting lost in the world and the characters. Especially when writing in a series, I get very emotionally attached to, and invested in, my characters. Sometimes when I’m writing, hours fly by, and I’m completely oblivious not only to the time, but to anything—and anyone—else around me. It’s always been a tremendous escape for me, and a wonderful outlet for my imagination.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Writer’s block! I hate when I get stuck on something I’m writing, or have trouble coming up with new ideas. I tend to find inspiration from all sorts of places, but even so, when my muse stops running around in her hamster wheel in my head, it gets very frustrating. The best recourse I’ve found is to simply walk away and give myself a day or so to rest and recollect my thoughts, but it’s hard to do, especially when I’m working against a deadline or feel I’m right at the cusp of creating something good.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
I would like to be Nellie Bly. She was one of the first female investigative reporters in the United States, and a true pioneer for women journalists. She went undercover, pretending to be mentally ill, in order to expose the inhuman and insanitary conditions of insane asylums in early 20th century. Many of her most celebrated accomplishments came when she was a young woman, only in her 20s. Through the biographies I’ve read of her, she strikes me as being completely fearless, as well as unabashedly self-confident, and I admire that.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Probably a package of Boar’s Head ham that should have been pitched last week. There may be older things lurking toward the back of one of the shelves, but I’m afraid to go digging around too deeply.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I’m currently working on the next book in the Brethren Series, tentatively called In the Heart of Darkness. It focuses on two characters, Julien Davenant and Mason Morin, who appear in the Dark Vengeance titles. In the Heart of Darkness is my first ever M/M romance, and I’m really pleased and excited about how it’s turning out. After that, I’m back to Lina and Brandon for the tenth Brethren book. There are some loose ends from Dark Vengeance Part 2 that I need to take care off…!
