Forbidden Blood by R.L. Kenderson‏

R.L. Kenderson is two best friends writing under one name. Renae wrote her first poem in third grade and learned she might have a knack for this writing thing, while Lara remembers sneaking her grandmother’s Harlequin novels when she was probably too young to be reading them and always knew she wanted to write her own.

When they met in college, they bonded over their love of reading and the TV show Charmed. What really spiced up their friendship was when Lara introduced Renae to romance novels, and when they discovered their first vampire romance they knew there would always be a special place in their hearts for paranormal romance. After being unable to find certains storylines and characteristics they wanted to read about in the hundreds of books they consumed, they decided to write their own.

They both live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area where they’re a sonographer/stay-at-home mom and pharmacist by day and sexy author by night.

Next in line to lead the vampire species, Princess Naya Kensington has always abided by her royal responsibilities. At the urging of her best friend, Naya breaks the rules and crosses the line when she goes to a human nightclub. Following a chance encounter, Naya alters her life with a singular act forged from lust and blood.

Vaughn Llewelyn has secrets and obligations of his own, but he ignores them when he spots Naya across the nightclub. He wants her in a way he’s never felt before, and although he can’t possibly have more than one night with Naya, he knows no one else will do.

One night of forbidden love creates a bond that will forever change both of their lives…as well as their worlds.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
A) We love paranormal romance, and we love vampires (and other paranormal characters) who are born, alive, can have offspring. Rather than vampires that are the living dead and are changed into a vampire (or other paranormal characters) by being bitten. Also, we wanted to read a story about a vampire and something we can't give away because they would spoil the story. After not being able to find what we wanted, we wrote our own.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
A) Our book basically took two years. We started in 2012 and we took some breaks between multiple revisions to try to find an agent before we decided to self-publish. We also did things like critique groups and webinars in between. Once we decided to self-publish, we had to wait six months for the editor we wanted to be available. So all that adds up to about two years.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
A) That you get to create the story you want. You get to decide what happens to your characters and if you don't like the ending of the story, you can change it. Also, it's nice to be able to work from home and choose your own hours.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
A) That you know how the story is going to turn out. You don't get to be surprised like the readers. Also, you can doubt yourself sometimes. Because reading is so subjective, there is no cut and dry right or wrong way so you sometimes have to wonder if your stories are good enough.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
A) Probably Scarlett Johansson. She looks amazing, is super busy with tons of movies so it seems like her career is really on track, yet there isn’t constant drama in the media regarding her personal life. It seems like she really has everything together. Plus, she seems like such a normal person, a nice, girl next door who would be fun to be friends with.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
A) Renae - The oldest thing in my fridge is probably onions. I usually buy several at time so that I always have them available for cooking.

Lara – Whatever I have forgotten about because I didn’t want to eat it. Probably lettuce that needs to go in the garbage. I try to pretend that I like salads, but I really just do not.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
A) Later this year, most likely December, we are planning to release our second book, Forbidden Heat. It is the second book in the Forbidden series. Next will be Forbidden Temptation, which will be Kenzie and Sawyer's story sometime in 2015.
