Valens Remembered, The Story Begins by Sherrel Lee‏

Wrangler of a fearsome Yorkiepoo named Rogue (Half Yorkie half Poodle weighing in at a hefty five pounds). Obsession controlled writer with a passion for making up names and twisting myths.

Sherrel, as the daughter of an Emmy winning cameraman, learned early in life the dark secrets of creating all those incredible fantasy characters for the large and small screen.

Refusing to be crushed at the discovery the monsters, aliens, and Robby the Robot weren't real, Sherrel's imagination soared. She became a SELF-proclaimed voyeur of special-effects and expert at fictional character creation.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Valens Rise, which was actually my first book and written well before Valens Remembered, was the result of seeing a movie that made me want to know what tales were told beyond the Roman, Greek, Celtic and Norse we are all so familiar with. So, with the awesome and available Internet I began researching Myths from around the world. This led me to a desire to combine the familiar myths with those that are not so well known. There are so many wonderful, scary and amazing creatures created by the natives of different countries and regions I fell in love and had to create a world where they could all live together.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
This wasn’t a quick trip to the grocery store. I began writing it in 2010, then revised and rewrote, published (never should have done that) with an editor and realized it needed a lot more work that I thought. So I hired and editor, she went through it with a fine tooth comb, rewrote it again in 2011 and finally published in 2012. Then I had to make some adjustments to the covers – I went from awful to awesome (in my opinion). Then I began working on the rest of the series which has brought us to this month’s release of Book 5 Valens Rebel with a few more in the pipeline.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love getting lost in the movie that runs through my mind as the book becomes a reality. I am not a plotter which means I begin a story and it flows through my fingertips in its own time.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
I have a love-hate relationship with the editing process. I finish a book, I do my own initial edits and then I send it to Lauren – one of the most awesome editors I could have partnered with. Within a few weeks has returned my sweet baby now flowing with blood where she has caught the impossible (even for fantasy), demanded I fill in the holes, and made sure my story is the best I can tell – then the rewriting begins again until she says, “Now that makes more sense!”

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
This is are really hard question because there are so many people who I admire – not because they are famous, but because they know things I don’t, understand things better than I do, or have worked hard to achieve what they have. So, Bill Gates for the knowledge and ability to understand the world of computers so well that he created an empire. Nora Roberts, because she writes prolifically, and is always willing to share her knowledge with novices. Anyone who understands and can make wise investments in the stock market. All the people from Stephen King, Jim Butcher and Doctor Seuss who didn’t let rejection stop them from writing and following their dream, and finally Donald Trump for his ability to pretend his hair doesn’t look ridiculous.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
You would ask that – and I confess I had to go search to see what I had forgotten was there. I found a wonderful container of green mold that said it was cheese spread on the label from 2005. Yum.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I thought I was coming to the end of the story when I wrote Rebel and the current book I am working on, Valens Reclaimed. However then I sat down and started a list of all the ends that must be tied. The list has about six or seven items on it, such as will Jemma and Hawke finally get together for good and always? Does Cerberus take over the world? Can Declan find true happiness? And on and on so keep watching many more stories are playing in the movie theater of my mind.
