Joseph O’Reily is still adjusting to the lifestyle and the dangers that come with being a new vampire. He and Cassandra recently fought to the death with Cassandra’s estranged husband John Snow, and now Joseph has experienced his first ménage a trios, as only a vampire can. As if all of this was not complicated enough, he and Cassandra have been tasked with hunting down and killing a rogue vampire, Donald Rathmore.

Another of John Snow’s creations, Donald is an evil misogynistic killer in his own right. Donald has no interest in avenging his creator’s death, but killing Cassandra is at the top of his list.

While Donald continues his murderous spree, Joseph and Cassandra always seem to be one step behind him. The chase is further complicated as they encounter other vampires and learn more about the mysterious nature of the Vampire Council and the coming war between good and evil.

Joseph is only now beginning to trust Cassandra, and this trust will be shaken when he discovers she has even more secrets than he imagined. Her idea of justice and morality is at complete odds with his own. Despite all his powers and growing skill, Joseph is tested physically as a vampire and emotionally by Cassandra. This time the answers and challenges may be too much for the young vampire to handle.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Hi Pembroke, thanks for being a part of my blog tour. Onto your questions…

“Killer on the Road” is a direct sequel to “The Newfoundland Vampire” so it’s hard to explain one without mentioning the other. For a long time (at least 8 years) I had an idea to write a vampire novel set in Newfoundland with the main character based on myself. I loved the idea of exploring what would happen in my life if I made different choices, met different people and of course, vampires were real. So once book 1 was over I just kept writing. For book 2 I was inspired by the success of book 1 (sold about 2300 copies) and had a moment of inspiration on vacation. I just had this notion that my characters had more so say, more to do. Also I should mention that I’ve been fortunate to have traveled a lot in life and I wanted to write a book to show some of the great places I’ve been to and others I hope to visit someday.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
Book 2 the ideas were flowing well. It took me about four and a half months to do the rough draft. Then about another 3 weeks of editing before it was reading for print.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
The creating of my own characters, my own world, having things turn out the way I want. There’s so many things in the world I have no control over and this is one small thing that I do. I also should say a tie would be getting positive attention for my writing, I know that makes me sound a little egotistical but it’s a wonderful feeling to be appreciated for something you love.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Editing! For book 1 there was 3 months of it and it was rough. For book 2 it was much shorter but I hate having to fix grammatical issues, it’s just boring and tedious but necessary I know.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
What a great question! Hmm…my first response would be William Shatner (I assume during that day he wouldn’t die, as he’s no spring chicken). It’s because when I was young he was my hero, I know in real life he’s not the friendliest guy but he’s Captain Kirk! Kirk was so much a part of my childhood and as an adult I appreciated his (I believe) much improved acting ability. If meeting your hero is a thrill, I think being your hero even for one day would be tremendous. Plus I could give all sorts of money to charity and tell the fans how much I appreciated their support.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Another great one! I’ve never been asked this question, let me go check. I found some Honey Dijon mustard that’s been there since 2004! I smelled (and looked at it) and I’m not sure if it’s gone bad or not, now that I know how old it is I don’t think I’ll eat it.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I’ve already started work on an unnamed Newfoundland Vampire book 3. Also I’ll have a short story called “Robots” appear at the back of Walter Knight’s America’s Galactic Foreign Legion Book 20: Time Machine (by Penumbra Publishing same great bunch who publish my books) hopefully sometime late this year.

Thanks for the interview, great questions! I had a lot of fun answering them.
